Rudraksha Care Guide

How to Perform Rudraksha Pran-Pratishtha

Pran-Pratishtha is the sacred act of awakening divine consciousness within your Rudraksha, transforming it from a natural bead into a living vessel of Lord Shiva’s grace. Follow each step with faith, purity, and an open, devoted heart.

  1. Purification: Prepare a mixture of clean water (or Gangajal) and raw cow’s milk. Soak the Rudraksha in this mixture for 15 minutes to cleanse it of worldly impurities and awaken its sacred energy.
  2. Rinse Thoroughly: Remove the Rudraksha and rinse it with clean water to wash away all milk residue. This ensures the natural pores of the Rudraksha remain open and unblocked, preserving its spiritual potency.
  3. Dry Gently: Using a clean, soft cotton cloth, gently pat and wipe the Rudraksha until it is fully dry. Handle it with care and mindfulness throughout this step.
  4. Place Before Lord Shiva: Set the Rudraksha in your Pooja Ghar before a Lord Shiva idol, Shiva Lingam, or a picture of Lord Shiva. If none are available, visualise Lord Shiva with a pure and devoted heart. Your intention is your altar.
  5. Offer Your Devotion: Light a Diya and Dhoop. Offer white flowers, Bel Patra (Bilva leaves), and Chandan (sandalwood paste) to Lord Shiva as a loving act of surrender and worship.
  6. Chant the Mantra: Hold the Rudraksha between both palms, close your eyes, and chant “Om Namah Shivaya” 108 times with complete faith, devotion, and gratitude. Let each repetition deepen your connection to the divine.
  7. Wear with Devotion: After completing the chanting, wear the Rudraksha with reverence and offer a heartfelt prayer to Lord Shiva for health, protection, prosperity, and spiritual growth.

Rudraksha Care: Do’s

  • Keep your Rudraksha clean. Wipe it regularly with a soft, clean cotton cloth to keep it free from dust and moisture.
  • Condition once a month. Apply 2–3 drops of natural oil (mustard, sandalwood or almond oil) to a cotton cloth and gently dab it over the Rudraksha. Only dab the oil. Do not soak the Rudraksha in oil.
  • Wear with faith. Wear your Rudraksha with devotion, positivity and respect. Regular chanting of “Om Namah Shivaya” while wearing it is highly beneficial.

Rudraksha Care: Don’ts

  • Avoid chemicals. Remove your Rudraksha before using soap, shampoo, body wash, perfumes or other chemical-based products, as prolonged exposure may damage the bead over time.
  • Never soak in ghee or oil. These substances can clog its natural pores and affect its longevity.
